The importance of Clean Beauty

The importance of Clean Beauty

Why Clean Beauty is more Important!

Eating a healthy and balanced diet helps us to maintain the normal functioning of every organ and cell in our bodies. But not every important organ is internal.

Our skin is the largest organ of the body. Therefore, it is important that we care for it in the best way we can. Not just by what we put into our bodies, but also by what we put onto it.

In recent years, the global wellness industry has gone from strength to strength. As of March of this year, for example, the "clean skin care" category made up 13% of high end sales, double what it had been in previous years.

So what exactly is "clean" beauty?

Clean beauty are the products which are said to contain no nasty ingredients which could present potential harm to human health or the environment.

With this in mind, to all of us most health conscious today, we couldn't possibly understand why companies would ever put toxic and harsh chemicals into their products, but it has been happening for years and still does today.

Currently, there are a staggering 1,300 cosmetic ingredients banned in the UK, compared to a mere 11 in the US. To even think that there are this many substances considered harmful is worrying. The rise of clean beauty has, for a while, been very much down to consumer awareness.

Now, you may think "I'm only using a small amount at a time" and yes, a small amount in just one use won't do a lot, but when you think about your usage daily, over a week, over a month, this is where the danger lies.

Fragrance in particular is of huge concern, as companies use "fragrance" to hide the fact that all of those ingredients used to make up said fragrance are actually very harmful.

But aside from all that doom and gloom, we can rest assured that clean beauty is here and it's here to stay, as long as we seek it.

How do I even begin?

You may also now be thinking about that beauty drawer that is stuffed to the brim with all sorts, but don't fear, change takes time! And the beauty of change is that we can start at any time.

A suggestive start would be to go through all the products you have first, and check those dates! You will normally see a little symbol that will have a number to represent the months, just like this one.

After this is done, just go with one product switch at a time. You don't have to break the bank and do a mega haul all at once, and it doesn't have to cost the earth! In fact, you may at first think that some "clean beauty" items seem more expensive than your average buy, but this is down to quality over quantity here.

Take our very own LashAura lashes for example. We have all seen people reuse glue lashes a couple of times, but NEVER 35+ times, you just can't beat that! Glue lashes are simply messy, difficult, harmful, and just not worth it.

Make sure to do all your research, know what you are looking for. This is key to getting the products you need, and your body will love you for it!

What should I be watching out for?

1. Parabens - You will find parabens in a huge amount of products, it's a common one. Although it hasn't been proven, parabens have been linked to interference with the endocrine system.

2. Phthalates - Again, these can disrupt the endocrine system and mimic hormones.

3. Alcohol - Alcohol is another common ingredient to find and can strip the skin of its natural barrier against bacteria.

4. Formaldehyde - This harsh ingredient can irritate the skin and worsen asthma. It is also very dangerous when inhaled as this can cause cancer, so ventilation is vital around this nasty toxin.

These are just a handful of harmful ingredients, but you get the jist!

So all in all, with the year that's in it, as you can see it's never been more important to take care of ourselves, and feeling good is part of that too.

One day soon (when we can all hopefully socialise again!) or maybe you just want to pamper yourself just because, we can feel good not only about how we look, but how we feel too, knowing that we are not harming ourselves in the process.

As the saying goes, invest in your skin. It's going to represent you for a very long time!
